Best before date

The best before date indicates a point in time up to which a food product will maintain its specific characteristics. This applies provided that it has been stored appropriately. It always refers to original sealed packaging. Cheese packaging states "Keep refrigerated at +2 °C - +7 °C. Best before: xx.xx.xxxx". This indicates that it should be kept in the fridge. The best before date takes shelf life into consideration and is not to be equated with the expiry date. Lovers of blue veined cheese such as Bavaria blu for example claim that it is at its best just before the best before date, as it has become even creamier and more mouth-watering by then.
