Meeting highest quality requirements, the observance of sustainability aspects in the company as well as a close connection to our milk farmers are our core responsibilities.
Our Milk
Rolling hills and lush green meadows set against a backdrop of alpine mountains: The Bavarian Alps and foothills are home to the cows that supply us with the best-quality milk for our various cheese specialities.
The delicious milk from our local region forms the basis of the exeptional taste and high quality of Bergader's special cheeses. As a Bavarian family company our focus is on regionality, fairness and sustainable management. And this starts with the milk:
- Which is why we source fresh milk exclusively from our 1,250 or so contract farmers from the region, with whom we have maintained close and collaborative relationships – often for generations.
- We pay fair prices for the milk to offer our farmers long-term prospects.
- Short transport routes of 20 km on average from the farms to our cheese dairy benefit the environment and ensure our milk is as fresh as possible.
- Bergader milk comes from dairy cows that enjoy exclusively European feed, with no genetic modification.

The personal dedication and fast experience of our milk producers ensures that we only work with the best-quality milk.
Our cheese dairy has enjoyed strong collaborations with our milk supplieres for decades, partnerships are handed down from generation to generation. Our farmers also play an important role in preserving the typical Bavarian cultural landscape.
Animal Well-fare
Only healthy animals can produce premium milk.
Which is why we make it a priority to actively support our dairy famrers in welfare-oriented animal husbandry and in constantly improving and further developing these husbandry conditions beyond statutory requirements.
Since 2016 we have offered our farmers a consultancy service to improve husbandry conditions and animal welfare. This consulting initiative aims to help our predominantly family-run dairy farms to position themselves for the future. What's speical about our consulting programme is that every farm is treated individually and receives advice tailored to their specific situation.
Quality & Certificates
The consistently high quality of all Bergader speciality cheeses has always been a major part of our company philosophy. We manufacture our products according to highest international quality standards and subject these products to stringent monitoring.
Strict Quality Management
As the first cheese dairy in Germany we have been certified for more than 25 years according to the standardised quality management system DIN EN ISO 9001. This guarantees that all our employees are focused on quality on a daily basis.
Our two production sites in Waging and Bad Aibling are audited and certified annually according to the latest standards such as the International Features Standard (IFS) and the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). These demonstrate our commitment to high retailer and consumer requirements.
